Answer
In principle, a person cannot give zakah to their direct ascendants (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.) nor to their direct descendants (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, etc.). Similarly, it is not permissible for a husband to give zakat to his spouse, although there is a difference of opinion on whether a woman can give zakat to her husband. Besides the aforementioned relatives, one may give zakat to any other family member.
